How to Prepare for your Cosmetic Tattoo (Cosmetic Tattoo Precare)

Lip Blushing Cosmetic Tattoo Pre-care

Before you come in for your first session it’s important you take care of your skin and body to ensure you receive the best possible outcome. 

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding we are unable to complete your cosmetic tattoo service.  Please contact your local studio to reschedule if this applies to you.

  • 6-months prior:
    • It is important that you have finished any acne medication (i.e Roaccutane) at least 6 months before your cosmetic tattoo session.
  • 3-months prior
    • Lip fillers/injections must be completed at least 3-months prior to your appointment. 
  • 4-weeks prior:
    • Avoid chemical peels within the 4-weeks leading up to your appointment.
  • 2-weeks prior:
    • Avoid ‘acidic’ beauty products around the procedure area for at least 2-weeks prior to your service. 
  • 1-week prior:
    • Avoid the sun and any fake take applications for the week prior to your appointment.
    • Apply lip balm daily and scrub your lips with an exfoliant twice during the week.
  • 2-day prior:
    • If you have a history of cold sores/fever blisters/herpes simplex, you will be required to obtain the proper antiviral tablets by prescription or over the counter to prevent an outbreak.  Start taking your antiviral 2-days prior to your appointment. A breakout can affect the healing process and end result of your tattoo.
  • 1-day prior:
    • Do not work out 24 hours prior to your procedure.
    • Avoid alcohol, caffeine & blood thinning medications for 24 hours prior to your appointment (please speak to your GP if you have concerns).
  • On the day:
    • Drink plenty of water & ensure you’ve had a good meal prior to your arrival. 
    • Wear comfortable clothes.
    • If you are wanting to use a numbing cream during and after your procedure, please acquire this prior to your appointment from either your GP or pharmacy.

Eyeliner Cosmetic Tattoo Pre-care

Before you come in for your first session it’s important you take care of your skin and body to ensure you receive the best possible outcome. 

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding we are unable to complete your cosmetic tattoo service.  Please contact your local studio to reschedule if this applies to you.

  • 6-months prior:

    • Remove all eyelash extensions 3-5 days prior.
  • 2-days before:
    • No brow/lash waxing or tinting at least 48 hours prior to your tattoo.
  • 1-day prior:
    • Do not work out 24 hours prior to your procedure.
    • Avoid alcohol, caffeine & blood thinning medications for 24 hours prior to your appointment (please speak to your GP if you have concerns).
  • On the day:
    • Drink plenty of water & ensure you’ve had a good meal prior to your arrival. 
    • Wear comfortable clothes.
    • Please make sure you have no mascara or makeup on.
    • Do not wear contact lenses during or immediately following the eyeliner procedure. If you wear contact lenses, please remember to bring your glasses as we cannot tattoo eyeliner with contact lenses in. You can go back to wearing contact lenses as soon as your eyes have healed.

How to Care for Your Cosmetic Tattoo (Cosmetic Tattoo Aftercare)

Lip Blushing Tattoo Aftercare

Taking Care of Your Cosmetic Lip Blushing Tattoo

On the day

Very gently and regularly blot your lips with a dry, clean tissue until bedtime and regularly apply the aftercare cream.

Do not touch the treated area unless applying aftercare cream and ensure that your hands are clean. Use a fresh cotton tip to apply the aftercare cream.

1 – 48 hours

Avoid wetting or washing your face. If you need to cleanse your face use baby wipes and avoid your lips. 

48 hours – 14 days

  • Do not scratch, rub or pick the area as this may cause irritation, scarring or infection. 
  • Take caution around the area when getting dressed and putting clothing over your head.
  • Do not apply makeup to the area until it is completely healed, approximately 2 weeks post. 
  • Apply aftercare cream 1-3 times daily until the peeling process has been completed, which is typically around 5 days post.  
  • Avoid swimming, spas, saunas, baths or any prolonged water activities as excessive moisture and water can increase the chance of infection and impair your tattoo from healing. 
  • Do not expose your healing skin to direct sun, wind or tanning beds. 
  • Avoid excessive exercise as sweating can cause colour loss. 
  • Touch-ups are recommended to be done 30-45 days after the procedure
  • Sleep with a clean pillow case and change it regularly to avoid infection.

How long does it take for eyeliner tattoos to heal?

Cosmetic eyeliner tattoos can last between 8 and 18 months with regular touch-ups and a thorough aftercare routine. At Celebrity Ink we recommend booking your first touch-up around 30-45 days after your tattoo session.
