Mastectomy and Areola Tattoos

For individuals who have undergone mastectomy procedures, the journey to self-acceptance and healing is multi-faceted. One of the fastest-emerging and most empowering methods of embracing post-surgery breasts is the art of mastectomy tattoos and areola pigmentation.

These two unique tattoo procedures not only aid in camouflaging surgical scars but also restore the natural appearance of the breasts.
Whether it’s a realistic depiction of areolas or a symbolic design, these tattoos serve as poignant reminders of resilience and survival.

At Celebrity Ink, we provide mastectomy and areola tattoos for individuals looking to reclaim their bodies after a mastectomy.

What Are Mastectomy and Areola Tattoos?

Mastectomy Tattoos

A mastectomy tattoo is a tattoo that is drawn and inked on top of the breast area to cover mastectomy scars.

Whether it be on both breasts or the entire chest area, mastectomy tattoos can be any design you like. Mastectomy tattoos are a great way for individuals to reclaim their bodies after enduring the physical and emotional toll of a mastectomy.

Areola Pigmentation/ Nipple Tattoo

After getting a mastectomy, individuals can choose to get nipple reconstruction surgery or not. An alternative if you’ve decided not to undergo reconstruction surgery is to get areola pigmentation or nipple tattoos.

Essentially, nipple tattoos are like any other tattoos but have fine details, shading and colouring that make them look more realistic than what can be done during reconstruction surgery.

Nipple tattoos are 2D but look 3D, thanks to the skills and steady hand of the tattoo artist.

Who Is Suitable For Mastectomy Tattoos and Areola Pigmentation?

You may be suitable for mastectomy tattoos and areola pigmentation if you’ve undergone a mastectomy or breast reconstruction surgery.

However, areola pigmentation may not be the solution for you, especially if you have damaged skin on your breast from radiation. You may also not be suitable if you have thin breast skin due to your mastectomy surgery.

Technique, Procedure and Healing Process

Mastectomy tattoos and areola tattoos are like any other tattoos, except they’re on the breast region. When getting a mastectomy or areola tattoo, the artist will use the tattoo needle to deposit ink into your dermal layer, which is permanent.

If you’re thinking about getting a mastectomy tattoo or an areola tattoo, it’s best to talk with your doctor or surgeon to see if you’re suitable. If you are, you can book a consultation at your nearest Celebrity Ink studio.

During your initial design consultation, we’ll discuss your ideas for your mastectomy or nipple tattoo and listen to your inspirational story. We’ll talk about the design you want if you’re getting a mastectomy tattoo and your preferences for nipple and areola size, shape and colour if you’re getting a nipple tattoo.

We understand that mastectomy procedures are emotionally and physically draining, so helping you create a design that will be of utmost significance to you is our highest priority.
