TATTOOS MELBOURNE

Take on the world with tattoos that represent YOU.

Celebrity Ink is Melbourne’s premier tattoo brand! With some of the city’s most talented tattoo artists, we give you the opportunity to stand in the spotlight and proudly tell your story through ink.

Tattooing is an art form with a rich history spanning over 12,000 years, that’s evolved over time to now give us a plethora of tattoo styles to choose from. Not your standard tattoo parlour or tattoo shop, our tattoo studios in Melbourne are home to highly trained professionals who specialise in a range of styles including realism tattoos, script tattoos, American traditional tattoos, and more.

As one of the world’s largest tattoo brands, it goes without saying that our studios maintain the highest level of hygiene on a daily basis.

Melbourne Tattoo Trends and Popular Styles

Tattoo trends may come and go, but some styles never get old! We ink all tattoo styles in Melbourne. Choose from popular tattoo styles like Asian designs, or forge your own path with a custom tattoo just for you.

Fine Line Tattoos

Fine-line tattoos are proof that bigger is not always better. These simple tattoos are characterised by the use of thin lines to define the design. There’s no shading or colour, making fine-line tattoos quick and generally a lot less painful.

Traditional tattoos

If you’re interested in traditional tattoos, also known as classic Americana tattoos, then you’re honouring the origins of tattooing in western culture. You can easily spot a traditional tattoo by the use of bold lines and heavily saturated colours. Popular designs include skulls, anchors, ships, women, and other classic Americana motifs.

Japanese tattoos

Japanese tattoos are a beautiful way to express traditional artwork on your body. The most common Japanese tattoo designs include tigers, koi fish, dragons, cherry blossoms, and temples, with curling, whimsical smoke throughout. When you’re ready to commit to a large piece, a Japanese-style tattoo is one that will never go out of fashion.

Watercolour tattoos

A watercolour tattoo showcases bright colours with a subtle gradient to produce the impression of a watercolour painting on canvas. Colour tattoos are truly a work of art, with limitless design possibilities to choose from.

Polynesian Tattoos

Another traditional form of tattooing is Polynesian tattoos which include Samoan tattoos, Maori tattoos, and of course what many call tribal tattoos. Thick black lines carve out geometrical patterns, shapes and symbols for a stunning ode to Polynesian culture.

Anime Tattoos

Anime tattoos are a form of new school tattoos characterised by bold, bright colours featuring your favourite animated characters. Anime tattoos have become hugely popular and are a fun way to express yourself outside of the box.

Realism Tattoos

Imagine your favourite photo ingrained on your skin. That’s exactly what realism tattoos are! Realism tattoos can feature portraits or loved ones, celebrities or even your pet, they can be beautiful landscapes, or a special object. The only prerequisite for realism tattoos is that they appear as close to photorealistic as is physically possible.

Geometric tattoos

Geometric tattoos transform the most basic shapes and patterns into limitless designs with clean, sharp, bold lines and curves. These intricate and beautiful tattoos require an almost inhuman degree of precision from the tattoo artist, but the outcome is always a show-stopper!

Portrait tattoos

Portraits are frequently the tattoo of choice for people who want to honour someone important in their life, whether for inspiration, motivation, a reminder, or a memory. A subgenre of realism tattooing, portrait tattoos are typically medium to large in size so the tattoo artist can create incredible detail in your tattoo.

Minimalist tattoos

Less is more when it comes to minimalist tattoos. This amazing tattoo style is all about showcasing simplistic designs using sharp black lines, very little colour and minimal shading. Minimalism tattoos are a great tattoo choice for people looking for a simple, delicate tattoo.

Neo Traditional tattoos

Neotraditional tattoos are old meets new world. This style embodies the same essential elements as traditional tattoos with black lines and traditional colour schemes, but Neo-Traditional tattoo artists put a contemporary artistic spin on their designs. Neo-traditional tattoos are a fantastic choice for anyone seeking a striking, vintage-style tattoo with a dynamic, appealing design.

Script tattoos

Script tattoos are the best way to ensure that those words and memories are never forgotten. Most people have mottoes or phrases that inspire, encourage, or remind them of someone or something special. As a result of their delicate and cursive designs, script tattoos are among the most fashionable and in-demand types of body art. Beautiful and deeply symbolic, script tattoos can be customised to highlight the wearer’s personality.

Mandala tattoos

A mandala stands for endurance, affection, harmony, and eternity. Because they are the shape of celestial bodies like the Sun, the Earth, and the Moon, mandalas hold a special place in human existence. Mandalas are well suited for the forearm, chest and back. Mandalas are either done in traditional black and grey or with a wide array of vibrant colours and are great for people who believe in spirituality as they stand for meditation and focus.

Vegan Tattoos

Celebrity Ink™only uses vegan tattoo ink for all of our tattoos. Our tattoo studios use INTENZE ink. They actually created the first 100% vegan tattoo ink and they’ve never tested on animals. We’re doing our small part to encourage you to tell your story, without harming animals or the planet.

Melbourne Tattoo FAQs

How much do tattoos cost in Melbourne?

Due to the nature of the industry, the cost of a tattoo depends on a number of factors; there’s no one-size-fits-all tattoo price. Our Celebrity Ink™ Melbourne tattoo studios determine the cost of a tattoo by looking at the design, style, size, artist, and placement. This way, we can quote your tattoo up-front without any hidden costs which are sometimes associated with other Melbourne tattoo shops that charge by the hour.

Do you need a tattoo licence in Melbourne?

Tattoo artists in Melbourne do not need a licence to tattoo. That’s why it’s important that you choose a reputable tattoo studio like Celebrity Ink™.

How painful is a tattoo?

Are tattoos painful? The short answer is yes. However, it depends on the tattoo and where it’s placed. For example, a small, fine-line tattoo will hurt less than a full-colour sleeve tattoo. Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, so if you’re unsure it’s a good idea to start with something small so you have a good idea as to what your unique pain threshold is.

Can you get walk-in tattoos in Melbourne?

Yes, of course you can! We love doing walk-in tattoos if we have availability in-studio. Although if you want the full Celebrity Ink experience we recommend making a booking so we can match you with an artist that’s perfect for your needs.

Can you get a tattoo while pregnant?

It’s recommended that you don’t get tattooed until after your pregnancy. At Celebrity Ink tattoo studios we do not tattoo pregnant individuals. This is for the health and safety of the individual and their unborn child.

How old do you have to be to get tattoos in Melbourne?

You need to be over 18 years of age to get a tattoo in Melbourne. It is illegal in Victoria for a tattoo artist to tattoo anyone under the age of 18.

At Celebrity Ink we maintain the right to refuse anyone who is underage or anyone who cannot produce proof of age ID. This is to protect you and our tattoo artists.

How long does it take for a tattoo to heal?

The size, location and tattoo design can all determine how long it takes for your tattoo to heal. Generally, it can take between 2-6 weeks for it to heal but it’s important to note that it can take up to 6 months for the ink to completely settle into the skin tissue. To ensure the best results we recommend following a tattoo aftercare routine.
