Adelaide Tattoo Trends and Popular Styles

Celebrity Ink Adelaide is home to many experienced and talented tattoo artists who specialise in a number of different styles such as traditional, neo-traditional, black and grey, and watercolour. Find your style and Ink It Your Way at one of our Adelaide tattoo studios

Fine Line Tattoos

Fine line tattoos are characterised by their thin, straight or curved lines with little to no shading or colour. The shape is the most crucial aspect of these tattoos. Fine-line tattoos are done using round liner needles, they are less painful than other bolder, thicker tattoo styles that require the skin to be penetrated deeper and for longer periods of time.

Traditional tattoos

Traditional tattooing, also known as “American Traditional” or “Old School,” is a style of tattooing that emerged in the United States in the early 20th century. It is characterized by bold lines, bright colours, and iconic imagery such as hearts, anchors, and eagles. Traditional tattoos often feature a limited colour palette and use shading techniques like stippling and hatching.

Japanese tattoos

Japanese tattoos are a traditional form of body art that has been practised in Japan for centuries. Japanese tattoos are all about making a statement and typically feature large, bold designs that cover significant portions of the body. The designs often include powerful imagery such as dragons, tigers, koi fish, and demons, which are believed to hold spiritual or symbolic meaning.

Realism tattoos

Portraits of loved ones, celebrities, or even your pet can be featured in realism tattoos, as can gorgeous landscapes or treasured objects. The main requirement for realism tattoos is that they look as near to photorealistic as possible. This is a timeless style that encompasses both black and grey realism and full-colour realism, making it great for capturing something or someone very distinct.

Geometric tattoos

Geometric tattoos take the simplest forms and patterns and turn them into limitless designs with clean, sharp, bold lines and curves. These delicate and elegant tattoos demand an almost unnatural level of precision from the tattoo artist, and for good reason – the results are always breathtaking!

Portrait tattoos

Portrait tattoos are a true masterpiece of tattoo art. They’re a way to capture the essence of a loved one, an influential figure or a beloved pet in a piece of art that is both beautiful and personal. These tattoos are a true labour of love, created by skilled tattoo artists who pour their heart and soul into every line, every shadow, and every hue. Portrait tattoos are not only a way to pay tribute to someone special, but also a way to make them a permanent part of yourself. They are a true celebration of love, memory and life.

Minimalist tattoos

Minimalist tattoos are a modern tattoo style that emphasizes simplicity and minimalism. They often use clean lines, basic shapes, and a limited colour palette. The focus is on creating a design that is elegant and understated, rather than bold and colourful. Minimalist tattoos can be used to represent a wide range of concepts, such as love, strength, and hope. They often use simple symbols like hearts, arrows, or infinity signs, or simple illustrations like a crescent moon or a tiny bird. They are often small in size and can be placed on areas of the body that are visible but not too conspicuous, such as the wrist, fingers, or behind the ear. Minimalist tattoos are well-liked because of their clean and elegant design.

Neo Traditional tattoos

Neo-traditional tattoos are a beautiful blend of old-school charm and modern finesse. They take the classic elements of traditional American tattooing, such as bold lines, bright colours, and iconic imagery, and infuse them with a touch of contemporary flair. Imagine the timeless beauty of a pin-up girl, the striking power of a roaring lion, or the grace of a blooming flower, all rendered with a more illustrative style that adds depth, dimension and movement. Neo-traditional tattoos are more than just a simple design on the skin, they are true works of art. They are perfect for those who want a tattoo that is both classic and cutting-edge, timeless and trendy, and above all a true expression of themselves.

Script tattoos

Script tattoos are the ultimate form of self-expression, a permanent reminder of meaningful words, phrases, and quotes that hold a special place in one’s heart. Whether it’s a favourite song lyric, a meaningful quote, or a loved one’s name, script tattoos are a beautiful way to keep that special something close to you at all times. These tattoos are often done in elegant cursive handwriting and can be placed almost anywhere on the body including popular placement such as the wrist, inner forearm, or collarbone.

Mandala tattoos

A mandala is a spiritual and ritual symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, representing the universe. In tattoo art, mandala tattoos are circular designs featuring intricate geometric patterns and shapes that radiate out from a central point. They are often highly symmetrical and can include a wide variety of shapes such as circles, triangles, squares, and lotus flowers. Mandalas are believed to represent the idea of wholeness, balance and harmony, and the unifying aspect of the universe. They are popular among people looking for tattoos that have a spiritual or cultural significance.

Watercolour Tattoos

Watercolour tattoos are a newer tattoo style that mimics the look of watercolour paint on paper. They are characterized by their use of soft, flowing lines and a blending of colours that creates a dreamy, ethereal effect. The style is often used to create abstract designs or to make traditional tattoos look more artistic. The style is achieved by using techniques such as splattering, blending and layering of colours. It’s important to note that this style is not suitable for all designs and should be done by an experienced tattoo artist to achieve the best result.

Tribal Tattoos

Tribal tattoos are bold and striking forms of body art that tap into the primal power of ancient symbols and designs. These tattoos are characterized by their bold, black lines, and geometric shapes that can evoke a sense of strength, mystery, and connection to a deeper cultural heritage. They are often influenced by the traditional tattoos of various Polynesian and Maori cultures. Tribal tattoos are more than just a design on the skin, they are a true expression of one’s identity, culture, and history. They are a way to tap into the timeless, powerful energy of the ancestors and make it a part of yourself.

Adelaide Tattoo Prices & Payment Options

At Celebrity Ink, we want to give you the best tattoo experience possible, and that’s why we do pricing a little differently. Unlike most tattoo studios that charge by the hour, we look at each tattoo as its own unique piece of art to quote as an upfront cost. This way, you don’t have to worry about any surprise costs and our artists can create your dream tattoo without any limitations.

We understand that tattoos can be an investment and that’s why we also offer interest-free tattoo payment options such as Inkpay, similar to Afterpay and ZipPay, to make your dream tattoo more accessible and affordable.

Adelaide Tattoo FAQs

How much do tattoos cost in Adelaide?

When it comes to determining the cost of a tattoo, there are many factors to consider such as the size, design, style, placement and artist. However, at Celebrity Ink Adelaide tattoo studios, we take the guesswork out of pricing by providing upfront quotes with no hidden fees. Unlike other tattoo studios that charge by the hour, we offer a complimentary design consultation, where you can discuss your ideas with one of our experienced tattoo artists and get a clear quote. Don’t wait, book your appointment now and get ready to make a unique statement on your body with Celebrity Ink.

Do tattoos hurt?

Getting a tattoo can be painful, but the level of pain varies depending on the tattoo and its location. A small, fine-line tattoo will cause less pain than a full-colour sleeve tattoo. Each person’s pain tolerance is different, so if you’re unsure, it’s best to start with a simple tattoo to gauge your individual pain threshold. If you’re concerned about the level of pain, you can discuss this with your tattoo artist during your initial consultation.

Can you get walk-in tattoos in Adelaide?

You can 100% get a walk-in tattoo at our Adelaide tattoo studio as long as there is availability with our tattoo artists. For the full Celebrity Ink experience we do recommend booking a complimentary design consultation so we can match you with the perfect artist to bring your dream tattoo to life!

Can you get a tattoo while pregnant?

It’s recommended that you hold off on getting a tattoo until after you are pregnant. At Celebrity Ink™ we do not tattoo individuals who are pregnant. This is for the health and safety of the individual and their unborn child.

How old do you have to be to get tattoos in Adelaide?

In South Australia, it is illegal to tattoo anyone under the age of 18 years of age. To protect our clients and tattoo artists, at Celebrity Ink we reserve the right to refuse anyone who is underage or anyone who cannot produce proof of age ID.

How long does it take for a tattoo to heal?

Depending on the size, location and tattoo design it can take between 2-6 weeks for it to heal. It’s important to note that it can take up to 6 months for the ink to completely settle into the skin tissue. To ensure the best results we recommend following a tattoo aftercare routine.
