Women of the world unite; its International Women’s Week 2021. To kick it off we’re celebrating International Women’s Week today by honouring a few of the incredible females in the Celebrity Ink family from across the globe. Not just our female tattoo artists, but our female franchise owners as well.
But first, what exactly are we recognising?
All women deserve an equal opportunity future. One that is free from stereotypes and violence. Women deserve a future that is sustainable and peaceful. But how can we achieve this? By getting women to every table where decisions are being made. Full and effective participation of women in leadership drives progress for all people. And yet, women are often underrepresented, especially in the tattoo industry.
Each year, there’s a new theme to highlight the important contributions that women make. The theme for International Women’s Day 2021 is “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world.” The campaign theme for this day is #ChooseToChallenge.
We’re all responsible for our thoughts and actions, therefore, Choose to Challenge is about calling out gender bias and inequality. It’s about celebrating women’s incredible achievements. Throughout history, women have been essential in times of crisis (think women taking over men’s roles when they went off to war). Well, if there’s one thing that we can all agree on, its that the pandemic that started in 2020 and is lasting well into the next year, it’s certainly a time of crisis. But women are here for it.
This year’s theme celebrates the tremendous efforts by women and girls around the world in shaping a more equal future and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and highlights the gaps that remain, for that reason, to highlight the incredible achievements of women in the workplace during these tough times, we’re looking to our artists and franchisees.
If you find yourself thinking about what to do for International Women’s Week, we've got a few ideas for you.
Whether it's a matching tattoo with your partner, or a breast cancer ribbon to remember your mom. There are many ways to show your love with a tattoo.
Celebrate inspiring women like Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Malala Yousafzai, or Amelia Earhart with a portrait tattoo or a symbolic tattoo.
A lot of women don't believe they can do something because it's traditionally a man's job. But we know better than that, don't we.
Showcase the women you admire by posting about, tagging, and using the #ChooseToChallenge hashtag on social media.
Tattooing is traditionally a very male dominated industry, but we're changing that starting with Celebrity Ink studios around the world.
Our female franchise owners are absolutely thriving across the world. And we couldn't be more proud to be an equal opportunity business, and we encourage all businesses to embrace this.
Now that you know how to recognise International Women’s Day, get out there and do your part.
