How Would Your Tattoo Ideas List Look If They Were All Free? | Celebrity Ink™

Tattoo ideas are endless when you've got free tattoos for life

What would your tattoo ideas be if you had $50,000 worth of free tattoos?!

Last year we launched our new brand by gifting a lifetime supply of tattoos to one lucky winner: Lee Hunter.

Lee's first order of business was to cover up an old, faded tattoo with a big colourful piece that really represents her.

Needless to say, she was impressed with our new look and the VIP treatment!

This isn't the last you'll see of our VIP for Life, it's only the beginning of her story!

We asked Lee for her point of view and this is what she had to say!

Personally, I LOVE tattoos.

They are more expressive of personality than words and far more individual.

Be they colourful or monochrome, big or small, detailed or simple; no two are identical, not even flash tattoos.

I’ve been getting tattoos done since I was 18.

The clean aroma of the spray and the buzz of the tattoo machine are definitely my happy place.

It’s one of my two addictions: coffee and tattoos.

I start my day with a coffee without fail.

I find it relaxing and has the added benefit of stopping headaches.

Definitely medicinal.

Tattoos are the opposite.

I get a rush of adrenaline on hearing the tattoo machine.

I am one of those people who are scared of needles but have a lot of tattoos and tattoo ideas.

We are a weird bunch, I know!

It’s a difficult phobia to explain so I won’t even try.

But that fear does not change how I feel walking into a studio.

It’s definitely not a sense of fear, just pure excitement.

While some people get their thrills from a bit of retail therapy, there are those of us who get our kicks from adding to our unique canvases.

I’ve always been fascinated by ink and the artistry involved.

I don’t like to watch a piece being done for me, but love watching other people get theirs done.

It’s like painting with a fine paintbrush and fascinating to watch.

Whether it be a massive complex piece or simple writing (or something in between), it all takes time, patience and mastery to create a quality tattoo.

It’s probably the reason I don’t believe in the idea that all tattoos should have a deep meaning behind them.

It’s OK for it to be “just because”.

The artist still has to use their skills to create quality work.

For me, tattoos are my jewellery.

I’m very limited in what I can wear while at work (I haven’t worn a wrist watch in around 15 years!) and I tend to forget to put it on for my days off.

My tattoos add the colour and decoration to my day that other people use jewellery to achieve.

They don’t sparkle but they are works of art I love!

And a bit like jewellery, I have tattoos that are just because I like the way it looks.

Others commemorate significant events in my life or in honour of people important to me.

Some of my jewellery has strong sentimental attachments, like my grandmother's engagement ring passed down to me from my mum.

Or my slightly more attention grabbing set of black agate heart shaped earrings that I bought myself because they were pretty and I wanted to treat myself.

Unlike jewellery though, I don’t tend to get tattoos done spur of the moment.

I’m not immune to a bit of impulse buying but I never let myself get a tattoo without giving it some thought.

Up until recently I’ve made myself wait 12 months after coming up with tattoo ideas for my next tattoo and actually getting it; I’ve had ideas I thought would make a brilliant tattoo only to change my mind entirely!

I have had one of my tattoos covered up.

My original piece was a bit too detailed for the size and as it aged became blurred and faded.

Lesson learned!

So I went bigger with my tattoo ideas next time...

My violin-playing angel has become a shadow of my larger and very colourful ancient Egyptian Queen of the Gods, Isis.

I don’t regret having my angel done, but I don’t regret covering her up either.

She is a step on a journey represented in some awesome pieces of art I’m very fortunate to have with me forever (ignoring laser removal of course).

But my story isn’t over yet!

I am very fortunate to have won the Celebrity Ink™ Tattoos For Life competition in 2021 and to have enough bare skin to really make use of it.

It has also lead to an opportunity to share my ink journey with you all.

And I can’t wait to see where it takes us next!
